2012 Truckee River Cleanup Hailed as Success

RENO, Nev. -- Organizers are calling the Truckee River Cleanup 2012 a success. "Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful" hosts the annual event.

This year more than 600 volunteers pitched in to clean up various stretches of the river. Kayakers even helped with cleanup on the water. Afterward Save-Mart treated everyone to lunch at Rock Park in Sparks.

Organizers say the message they're trying to send is one of prevention. "We want to make sure we keep cigarette butts out of the river. We want to keep plastic bags and all littler fully contained, so keep trash can lids closed, don't let things fly out of you cars and trucks," said Executive Director Christi Cakiroglu. "Prevention is the key."

"Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful" is always looking for volunteers. You can sign up right on their website.
