Sparks police responded to two shooting incidents within minutes of each other Sunday night.

The first call came from a Spanish Springs neighborhood around 10 PM. Witnesses reported hearing gun shots followed by the sound of screaming.

Approximately four shots were fired at a house near the corner of Rota Court and Sansol Drive. Two people were transported by ambulance for treatment of injuries. One of the victims, 26-year-old Cameron Swain was shot in the chest allegedly by his father following a heated argument.

When police arrived on scene they found the father, Newton Byars-Swain, sitting in his drive-way, covered with blood.

According to police Byars-Swain and his son were fighting. Somewhere in the middle of that argument he produced a handgun and struck his son in the head with it. He then fired the gun into Cameron’s chest.

Cameron’s mother and another resident helped disarm Byars-Swain and waited for police to arrive. Byars-Swain was taken into custody and booked at the Washoe County Jail on one count of attempted homicide and one count of battery with a deadly weapon with substantial bodily harm.

Swain is in stable condition at Renown Medical Center.

About 10 minutes after the incident in Spanish Springs, Sparks police got a second report of a shooting. That one happened at an apartment building at 333 Stanford Way. Officers from Reno Police Department assisted in that response. According to investigators, that began as an argument between two men. One of the men was driving away from the area, when neighbors heard 3 gunshots. Unsure where the shooter was located, officers locked down the area evacuating apartments one at a time. One of the men involve in the incident was cooperating with police. Officers are still looking for the second man and the vehicle he left in. At this time, it is believed there are no victims as a result of this shooting.
