WEED, Calif. (AP) - Police say a suitcase full of methamphetamine seized from a bus stopped in Weed, Calif., is worth $1 million, and an Oregon man who acknowledged the suitcase was his has been arrested.
The Mail Tribune newspaper reported Friday that police opened a suitcase from a bus stopped at the terminal and found 12 packages wrapped in duct tape. They opened one and it tested positive for methamphetamine.
The methamphetamine weighed nearly 12 pounds
Police say 49-year-old Martin Chavez of Portland acknowledged the suitcase was his but denied knowing what was inside.
He was arrested Tuesday on drug charges and was held at the Siskiyou County Jail on $500,000 bail.
