Taking away State employee raises doesn't seem to be the right thing to do when the legislature always gives themselves a raise before state employees. Other are other ways to save money ie go to a four - ten hour days and everyone closed on Fridays. Think of the utilities that could be save from every state building.
I have to agree with a post from "Michael" and say that our raises were approved well before the eceonomy was "down." We count on this 4% to help pay for silly things like food, gas and our homes. What are single parents on one salary to do now? In all of this uprising, I find it interesting to find out that WNC decides to cut classes/programs and raises, but still decides to go out and buy a $24,000 baby-grand piano for "concerts" that no one attends and then they spend more to bring the players in to perform! Way to go GOV and WNC!!!
it's unfortunate that the Governor's opinion of State workers is so low that he would take the first real raise (if you can consider 4% a REAL raise) we've had in years away. State workers are paid less than any other sector of public servants, and are FAR more accountable. What people don't realize is that our pay starts much lower than the general private sector jobs, and then we sometimes get very small increases in pay = BUT that's only when the biennial legislature approves such raises. If he takes this small raise away from people that are already making substandard salaries, it will come back and bite him. State workers are never rewarded for exceptional effort, but too they are rewarded if they do poor work as well. It's a stupid system, but there are many of us that do a really good job and are very accountable. At Christmastime we never receive bonuses, and we never receive raises when times are good. We only get these sort of pathetic, small pay increases.
Gibbon and carson city shouldn't have any salary increase. Gibbon should be made to pay in full cell phone use. Gibbons should be on his knees and asking for forgiveness from his wife and the state of nevada. And give up his salary!
As a State worker myself, I'm sorry, I just don't see any reasoning behind this. First of all, those raises were approved when the economy wasn't quite so "down." Secondly, if the public sector doesn't like it, then they should go out and secure a State position themselves.
Among those who could be denied a raise are the ones who work in our prison system looking after the people who have committed horrible crimes in Nevada. Does any one out there think prison employees make enough to see hardened criminals each and every day??
Soooo disappointing, Raggio should be ashamed of himself! State workers take note we need to pay attention to how these legislators vote and work hard to get them OUT OF OUR GOV'T! True, there is a lot of waste in our state gov't but it hovers around the lousy administrators who look out for themselves not the everyday state workers. Most state workers top out at a pretty low rating but the administrators just keep making up new titles & promoting themselves. A very close look at org charts & the ratio of administrators vs workers would be a great way to cut waste. If an org has 40% administrators cut that down to 2%!!!
TAKE AWAY OUR RAISES AND RAISE OUR PARKING PERMITS AT UNR. HUMMMMMMMMMM
It is amazing that if any state worker used a state owned phone for text messaging, they would not be working for the state too much longer. What gives him the right to do that even if he paid it back. And why should state workers be penalized for the bad economy and not getting a raise when they are also paying higher prices for gas, food, utilties, home expenses, etc.
Have you been too busy until now to call the special session? Nothing like waiting until five days before the end of the fiscal year to make this decision. Way to go Gov!
