This 7.1 earthquake that hits Reno today is only a training scenario. It's not far from what could really happen given the earthquake activity Northern Nevada has felt lately.
Today's simulation will include people getting trapped in a collapsed building with information and conditions changing by the minute, just as they would in an actual emergency.
It will teach emergency responders skills in victim recovery, triage, mobile hospital setup, search and rescue, mass shelter, emergency food distribution, hazardous chemical spill response and damage assesment.
The Urban Search and Rescue teal will participate along with the National Guard. They will use simulated rubble piles, a collapsed parking garage, railroad cars and the seven story training tower at the Regional Public Safety Training Center for the exercises.
