Tom Benton was arrested 6/29/09. The DA issued a Felony warrant for his arrest. He is charged with Killing another persons animal. He did not have to shot the dog. The dog was sniffing around, not killing anything and tom Kruse is lying when he says he spoke to the owners about the dog being a nuisance numerous times. Those conversations never happened, not even once. Bucket had no doggy jail record. He escaped from the backyard this day and he did not deserve to die. There were other options. Sean was no more than 50 feet away from tom benton when tom shot his dog. Tom Kruse, well, he circled the wagons and told lies about the owners and he didn't even pay this 18 year old kid who was working to go to college for his last days of work. Tom Benton shot his dog 2 days before he was to take his high school finals. They didn't even say 'sorry kid' Shame on them.

i dont understand how the dog was killing live stock when the live stock is in back of Kruses and the dog was shot in front of the butcher shop. where did the dead chicken come from they showed two days after the dog was dead, did they save it? the chicken also was very much intack, they probally killed it by snapping its neck just for the camera. with that simple evidence right there, its obvious they are lying. common sense people. I hope he gets a felony so he can ever be in possesion of a gun or ammo. one less pshyco with a gun in washoe, yay!

I live in Washoe Valley and have not seen "dogs running wild" Usually they are pets that get out and we just take them home or call the owner. Can a person really shoot a dog that isn't on their property just because they suspect it is killing livestock?

This is a perfect example of how people with no personal responsibility bring good business owners grief and endanger there property. If the dog’s owner had taken the responsibility of having a dog seriously, then this would not have been an issue. I would like to see the dog’s owner held accountable for the losses that the business owner incurred from the dog, and the irresponsible behavior of the owner punished.

I live in Washoe Valley and there is a huge problem with dogs running wild. I know plenty of dogs that don't bother other animals at home, but terrorize any other animal it comes into contact with. My neighbors dog is a perfect example. I have a dog, I am a dog lover but this was justified. More people need to stand up for what is right and then maybe others will stand up and start being responsible. I would have done the same thing. I guess you need to be on the receiving end of a vicious dog to understand, which is just wrong.

This dog has been roaming around Washoe Valley killing rabbits, chickens, and sheep. Not my idea of a nice family pet. A fromer Carson City Sherif witnessed the shooting and the dog was on Kruses property. The dog was killing Tom Kruses pets and it was justified.

I hope they find the store owner at fault! I hope the dog wasn't even on the store property when it was shot. I can understand if the dog was going after the animals like the store owner said, but the dogs owner says they have chickens and ducks and the dog never bothers them, hmm. I don't allow my dog to run free and nobody else should either, but should my dog get loose for an instant and someone shoots her, they will have hell to pay.
