After tabling a discussion on un restricted gaming at last week's meeting, the Sparks City Council called a special meeting Tuesday night, to hear from the community.
So for three hours, residents from Spanish Springs and a few from Sparks, spoke out against the possibiity of casinos near their homes. They raised arguments about sinking property values, traffic and safety.
Residents were also joined by spokespeople for the Nugget Hotel and Casino and Rail City, who talked about the negative impact neighborhood casinos would have on gaming downtown, and surrounding businesses in Victorian square.
The Council voted to reenact the non-restricted gaming moratorium for 90 days. At a later date, the council will also explore putting the matter on the November 2006 ballot.
