GERLACH, NV - The Carmichael couple stranded in a Black Rock Desert playa is headed back home safe and sound. Washoe County Search and Rescue crews located the couple around 8 a.m. this morning in an area known as Double Hot Springs.
Search say an air search squadron located the pair after noticing the word "HELP" scrawled in a muddy playa. Search crews had been out since yesterday afternoon after family and friends contacted authorities after the couple failed to return home Monday night from the desert outing.
Crews reached the stranded couple around noon today. Brooke Keast, Washoe County Sheriff Public Information Officer, said recent storms created a severe muddy conditions that caught the pair off guard and causing their jeep and trailer to get stuck in the mud.
