RENO, Nev. (AP) - Trial is under way in Reno for a woman accused
of trying to hire a hit man to kill her estranged boyfriend in a child custody dispute.
Traci Morrison, 24, of Sparks, was arrested July 10 after one of the two men she met with to arrange the killing of Timothy Palos turned out to be an undercover police officer.
Deputy District Attorney Bruce Hahn told jurors Tuesday that Morrison and the men talked about price, method and time, and that the conversation was captured on a hidden recorder.
Court documents alleged she offered drugs, sex and the title to her car worth $1,000 to complete the deal.
But Morrison's lawyer, Cotter Conway, said he client was set up.
Conway said the man with the undercover officer was the husband of Morrison's cousin, who didn't like Morrison.
The two had exchanged nasty telephone messages and threats, Conway said.
