A peace advocacy group marked Memorial Day with a demonstration in front of the Bruce R. Thompson Federal Building in Reno.

Several dozen people stood outside the building as part of an event put on by the Sierra Interfaith Action for Peace. Many held photos of fallen Nevada soldiers who lost their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to a news release, the event was intended "to bring special attention and a more tangible feeling of our loss due to the Iraq war." The release also says the demonstration was held to honor the lives lost.

Small flags were placed in the grass outside the federal building and the names of fatalities from the Iraq war were read aloud.

The Washington Post reports there have been 4,070 American fatalities in Operation Iraqi Freedom to date. It also states there have been 493 fatalities in Operation Enduring Freedom.
