Sparks Suspect Tasered During Police Scuffle

SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Sparks police used a Taser gun to subdue a
suspect early Monday after he allegedly threw a punch and tried to
grab an officer's weapon, authorities said.

The incident began around 3:40 a.m. when an officer approached a
suspicious vehicle in an industrial area where a string of burglaries have occurred, Sparks Police Sgt. Donny Player said.

The vehicle fled and the pursuit ended in a residential neighborhood in Reno when the driver crashed into a tree.

Authorities said Luis Ramirez got out of the car, and at one point allegedly tried to hit a Reno officer and grab his gun.

Another Reno officer took Ramirez to the ground, and during the struggle Ramirez was Tasered by the Sparks officer, police said.

Ramirez was treated at a hospital and later taken to Washoe County Jail.

He and a passenger, Steven Bernhardt, were booked on various charges, including suspicion of felony eluding, battery on a police officer, possession of methamphetamine, driving under influence,
hit and run, and possession of burglary tools, authorities said.
