RENO, Nev. (AP) - Median home prices fell in two-thirds of the cities surveyed during the first three months of this year, including double-digit drops in the Las Vegas and Reno metropolitan areas.
The National Association Realtors released the latest report today highlighting the depth of the nation's housing woes.
Nationally, the median home price fell to $196,300 in the first quarter, down by 7.7 percent from the same period a year ago.
The median home price in Las Vegas for the January-March period fell to $247,600, down 20.2 percent from the same quarter a year ago. The median price in the Reno-Sparks area is now $283,700, a decrease of about 13 percent from last year.
Median prices for existing single-family homes nationally dropped in 100 of 149 metropolitan for the quarter. The 67 percent of cities reporting price declines was the largest percentage of cities reporting price drops in the history of the survey, which goes back to 1979.
The biggest percentage price decline by metro area was a 29.2 percent drop in the Sacramento metro area.
