Lawmaker Seeks Ethnic Breakdown of Nevada Medical Board

LAS VEGAS (AP) - A state lawmaker is seeking a breakdown of the
ethnic composition of the Nevada state Board of Medical Examiners
over the last two decades.

Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie, D-Reno, is chairwoman of the the
Legislative Committee on Health Care.

She made the request Tuesday, after Dr. James Tate accused the medical board of disciplining black physicians more often and severely than their white counterparts.

Tate is a member of the state chapter of the Association of Black Physicians.

State Sen. Steven Horsford, D-North Las Vegas, who also sits on the legislative committee, expanded the request to include all ethnic and racial groups.
