The Nevada mother who was killed in a wreck on I-80 near Fernley on Monday afternoon has been identified.
Troopers say 23-year-old Chandra Jeanne Petty, of Fallon, was headed east on Interstate 80, when she suddenly attempted to make an illegal u-turn in the median. She was then struck by a very large motor home that was towing an enclosed trailer.
The motor home dragged the car 200 feet or so before coming to a stop.
The coroner on scene tells us the woman probably died instantly.
"The baby was seated in the right rear portion of the car, which most likely saved his life, along with being in the car seat. he was air lifted to renown, just to be looked at, but he appears to be okay," said Trooper Chuck Allen of NHP.
A Lyon County sheriff's investigator says alcohol *did not* appear to be a factor. The accident is still under investigation.
