Two Nevada High School Seniors Named Presidential Scholars

RENO, Nev. (AP) - U.S. Education Secretary Margaret Spellings has named a pair of high school seniors in Nevada as 2008 Presidential Scholars.

Daniel Sexton goes to Damonte Ranch High School in Reno. Kristen Arn attends Green Valley High School in Henderson.

Spellings says they are two of the 139 high school seniors across the country who have demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship and service at school and in their community.

Sexton is school valedictorian, a National Merit finalist and captain of the Academic Olympic Team. He also is a catcher and co-captain of the baseball team, a drum major in the marching band and a gourmet cook.

Arn is a National Honors Society member and was a delegate to Girl's State, where she was elected speaker of the House and district attorney in the mock government. She's also a member of the forensics team, volleyball and varsity track teams as well as the philanthropy chair of the Philosophy Club.

The Presidential Scholars will be honored for their accomplishments in Washington, D.C., from June 21-24.
