RENO, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County commissioners plan to use internal accounts rather that cut staff or services to balance the budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
Commissioners on Tuesday endorsed a general fund budget of about
$340 million, reflecting $17.3 million in cuts largely built on keeping jobs vacant.
To make up $5 million more in expected sales tax decline, the commission consented to transferring $3 million from the risk management fund.
The budget also will reduce support for its retiree health benefit fund by $2 million.
A public hearing on the proposed spending plan was set for May 19.
