Nevada Sen. Harry Reid is pushing to pass a bill that would free up $45 million in funding for a superspeed train between Disneyland and Las Vegas.
Reid says he expects the bill to come up for a Senate vote this week.
The money will help pay for an environmental study of a train using magnetic levitation technology.
It would be the first Maglev train in the U.S. and cost estimates reach $12 billion.
Reid says the project is needed to relieve congestion on Interstate 15. Critics calls the plan an unnecessary earmark.
