RENO, Nev. (AP) - A new report lists the University of Nevada, Reno among the top 32 colleges in the country in terms of students who receive the most financial aid based on merit instead of need.
According to U.S. News and World Report, Belhaven University in Mississippi topped the list in 2011-12 with 88 percent of their students receiving merit aid.
Thirty percent of the students at UNR get merit aid. That ties for 24th on the list along with nine other institutions that report the same amount.
On average nationally, 13 percent of students who had no financial need received some amount of merit grants or scholarships for the 2011-2012 school year.
The magazine reported data provided by more than 1,000 colleges and universities.
