She says she should have known better, but looking back is always hard.
"He came in my life and made me think that he was perfect, he promised me that he was never going to hurt any of us."
But, Carmen Bauer, says 47-year-old Fernando Aguero has done just that by taking her 8-year-old daughter Lydia.
Bauer met Aguero at Living Faith Christian Fellowship in Fernley last April, they quickly became friends and he moved into her home as a roommate.
Unknown to her, Aguero is a registered sex offender in California, but had not registered in Nevada.
"When I found out he was a sex offender, I flipped out. God, don't let him go that far with my daughter."
While Lyon County Sheriff's Officers also hope he doesn't harm the girl, they say a predator carefully plans an attack, often taking the time to get to know the family and victim very well before doing anything.
Officers say that became a reality last Friday.
After he took Bauer to work at 5:30 a.m., he took off with Lydia, headed straight for the border, they say, and they believe he's in Tijuana, Mexico now.
"I would do anything to get her back. I would go down there, but I can't."
