Firefighters believe lightning started it about 6:30 p.m. Friday in a Canyon along Jumbo Grade--roughly between Washoe City and Virginia City. It's since burned about two-hundred and fifty plus acres.
Air tankers and helicopters helped battle the flames during the daylight, and tonight hand crews are working the fire lines.
Fire crews have closed Goni Road at the north end of Carson City.
A mine and several houses are within a few miles of the fire, but none of those buildings is considered in immediate danger at this time.
Firefighters have no estimate on when this fire will be contained.
