NHP Trooper Injured in Rollover Identified

ELKO, Nev. (AP) - Authorities say a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper was seriously injured in a single-vehicle rollover in Elko County.

NHP spokesman Chuck Allen says the trooper was returning from Elko to West Wendover where he is based. The accident happened around 3 a.m. Wednesday just east of Wells.

The Elko County sheriff's office, which is handling the accident investigation, identified the trooper as Nicholas Pearl.

Undersheriff Rocky Gonzalez said Pearl was conscious when emergency crews extricated him from his patrol car.

He said Pearl suffered an internal injury and was taken to a hospital in Elko, then flown to Salt Lake City in stable condition.
