LAS VEGAS (AP) - The discovery of a soft drink can with an unusual top prompted the evacuation of a Las Vegas high school while police and firefighters were summoned to check it.
Clark County school police Lt. Ken Young said what had been termed a "suspicious" item at Rancho High School turned out to be a soda can with he called a "fizz top" designed to preserve carbonation.
Campus officials unfamilar with the device summoned authorities just before noon to check it out. No injuries were reported.
By the time the all-clear was issued about 1:15 p.m., classes were done for the day and students were sent home.
The campus just northeast of downtown Las Vegas has 3,331 students.
