The Nevada Supreme Court says Washoe District Judge Janet Berry
erred when she sentenced Anna Marie Jackson to two years in prison
but gave her credit that could have meant little to no actual time
The court ruled that house arrest is not confinement within the
meaning of the statute. Jackson was free to leave her home on advance notice for matters such as grocery shopping, employment, laundry, medical appointments, counseling and court appearances.
Deputy District Attorney Bruce Hahn had strongly opposed Berry's
ruling. He said the high court's rationale closely followed the
arguments he filed opposing Berry's ruling.
