Right now, there are only two in the area.
They work for the Washoe County bomb consolidation squad.
Part of the problem...is the cost of training the dog and the handler.
The dog can cost a law enforcement agency nearly 20-thousand dollars.
Training costs can be as much as 500-dollars a month.
Detective Chris Carter "it's expensive to have a bomb dog. You have to weigh the cost of something that may never be used versus the cost of not having one."
Both Washoe County and the Transportation Security Administration are in talks to add bomb dogs to their staff by the end of the year.
