Firefighters believe at least seven fires started along an eight-mile stretch in the interstate a little before 12 p.m. Since then, they've grown into two big fires, and they've covered more than 6,000 acres.
I-80 was closed near Dunphy for more than four hours Tuesday afternoon. At one point, a vehicle stopped at the roadblock overheated and caught fire, starting another wildfire, but that one was quickly extinguished.
So far, no buildings have been threatened and nobody has been hurt.
