The Nevada Discovery Museum is raising funds now, and plans to purchase the building from Panattoni Development Company in the future. The target date for opening the museum is September, 2007.
There were five competing offers to purchase the building, which is no longer used by City staff. At the City Council meeting on Wednesday, Silver Star Communities withdrew their offer out of deference to the discovery museum project.
The sale of the building is necessary to provide resources to complete the renovation of the new City Hall at One East First Street. Once the new City Hall building is entirely renovated the City will be able to lease unused office space, generating revenue for operations at that facility and payment of debt service on the building.
