A U.S. Coast Guard C-130 fixed wing aircraft, from Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento, launched at 2:20 p.m. this afternoon for a medical evacuation of a 6-week-old baby girl from Reno Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nev. The baby, who is suffering from a severe liver condition, is being flown to Moffett Field for transfer to Stanford Medical Center to receive necessary medical attention from a specialist.

With winds up to 30 miles per hour, the weather in the area is too severe for helicopters or smaller fixed wing aircraft to conduct the transfer. The C-130 is working with the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center as an agency assist because of the heavy weather. A nurse from the Reno Regional Medical Center will fly with the patient until arriving at Stanford Medical Center.

I would just like to thank the Coast Guard and all those involved. I don't have any affiliation with the baby, but I think this is an excellent use of the Coast Guard resources to help out those in need. Keep up the good work.
