Nevada Governor Names New Public Safety Chief

Gov. Jim Gibbons has appointed a state investigator to the top job at the Department of Public Safety.

Jerry Hafen will replace Phil Galeoto as the director of the department, the governor's office announced Thursday.

The Department of Public Safety oversees several state law enforcement agencies, including the Nevada Highway Patrol, state
fire marshals and the parole board.

Hafen is currently the deputy chief of the investigative division.

Galeoto plans to step down at the end of the month.
