Senator John Ensign was in Reno to award the Good Shepherds closet a 500-thousand dollar federal grant. He also announced the second phase of the new community assistance center. A women's and children's shelter will be built in the same location.
Construction has been underway on the new facility for about sixty days. It will also house Saint Vincent's dining room, a men's drop-in shelter, and the Reno/Sparks gospel mission.
About an hour before that announcement, Reno city leaders gathered for the groundbreaking of the Palladio condominium project. 92 upscale condos with 25-thousand feet of retail space. 40 investors put up the capital to make this project work. It will cost roughly 33 million dollars, and is the second luxury condo high rise to be built in the downtown area this year. Comstock converted its apartments into condos last month. The Palladio project should be complete by next Christmas.
