A night out drinking and dancing is likely to cause a hangover...not necessarily an emergency call to the police. Early Sunday morning, when emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found the four women in an "altered state."...A condition not induced by simply alcohol or other drugs.
Commander Steve Pitts, Reno Police Department says date rape drugs--like Rohypnol--are considered effective because they're virtually undetectable...and tasteless, odorless and colorless.
Also, all traces of the drugs will leave the body within 72 hours of ingestion and aren't found in any routine toxicology screen or blood test. Commander Pitts, "These people are smooth. It's very implicit they way they do it, they're flying under the radar, basically."
Reno Police and people in the bar and entertainment industry say nightclub drugging incidents do happen in this town, but they say they're not common.
Reno police are asking for anyone who believes they too may have been drugged to contact them at 334-COPS. They say any additional information could help them find a suspect.
The most frightening part about date rape drugs is that they're virtually undetectable...and tasteless, odorless and colorless.
Man or woman--if you're out partying, there are some simple things you can do to keep yourself safe. First, don't accept drinks--alcoholic or non-alcoholic--from people you don't know. When in bars or clubs always get your drink directly from the bartender. Don't use the waitress or let somebody go to the bar for you.
