Storm Brings More Snow, Chain Controls to Lake Tahoe

The latest in a string of storms is bringing more snow and chain controls to the Sierra.

The Boreal resort atop Donner Summit is reporting 8 to 12 inches of new snow over a 24-hour period ending this morning, while the Heavenly resort on Lake Tahoe's south shore is reporting 17 to 26
inches of new snow for the week.

Heavenly spokesman Russ Pecoraro says his resort's snowpack now
is about 160 percent of average for the date and will allow for good conditions for the rest of the season.

Mike Pierce, spokesman for the Mount Rose-Ski Tahoe resort above
Reno, says strong weekend crowds are expected unless new storms
keep skiers and snowboarders home.

Chains are mandatory on two major trans-Sierra: Interstate 80 over Donner Summit and Highway 88 over Carson Pass.

No major weather-related traffic problems were reported.

The National Weather Service is calling for a chance of snow around Lake Tahoe every day through at least Thursday.
