A bill has been introduced in the Nevada
Senate that would appropriate 200-thousand dollars over the next
two years for the state's effort to host the Olympic Winter Games
in 2014.
The bill states that the money is for an organizing committee
and is to be used for the costs related to submitting an
application for the Games. Nevada is proposing to host the Games in
the Reno-Lake Tahoe area.
Reno battled with Denver and Anchorage for the 2002 Games, which
eventually went to Salt Lake City. The 2006 Winter Games will be
held in Torino, Italy, and the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver,
Canada.
The Games previously came to the Sierra Nevada in 1960 at Squaw
Valley.
