The Truckee Meadows Water Reclamation Facility is looking at possibly recycling wastewater to be used as drinking water.
Now...this is something, if it happened, that wouldn't take place for ten years or so.
But, researchers at the University of Nevada and NASA are teaming up...to see if it's possible in space.
The systems being developed are called "membrane" systems, and they act like a kidney functions.
Instead of filtering out poisons in your body, the process filters out the wastewater...and produces clean water.
The reclamation facility already treats wastewater for other purposes in the Truckee Meadows.
The membrane process is quite expensive...and researchers will be looking at the costs to see if this is even feasible.
