Cabela's, the outdoor gear retail giant, has
signed a deal to build a new outlet store outside Reno, city
The Nebraska-based company will purchase 38 acres near Boomtown
Hotel Casino on Interstate 80 near the Nevada-California line.
Plans call for a 150,000 square-foot store that will include a
natural history museum, officials said.
"With the amazing sporting opportunities in nearby Tahoe and
the Sierra, as well as those throughout Nevada, California and the
Pacific Northwest, Reno is an ideal location," Dennis Highby,

With only 10 existing retail locations nationwide but a strong
following through Internet and catalog sales, Cabela's is expanding
its focus on retail stores.
Reno is one of seven new stores that have been announced and
will be the hunting and fishing outfitters westernmost outlet.
The stores feature elaborate nature displays and are big tourist
draws in other cities, officials said.
Mayor Bob Cashell said preliminary projections estimate Cabela's
could bring more than 3 million out-of-state visitors in its first
year and generate more than $700 million for the local economy.
The store is expected to open in late 2006 or early 2007.
Pinnacle Entertainment, Boomtown's parent company, is selling
the property - currently the site of the casino's truck stop - to
