Governor Jim Gibbons issued the following statement regarding the death of Army Specialist David Joseph Drakulich, 22, of Reno, Nevada.
He was assigned to the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, N.C.
Specialist Drakulich was killed on January 9, 2008 in Chagall, Afghanistan when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device.
He was serving his third tour in support of the Global War on Terror.
“Dawn and I are deeply saddened by the news of Specialist Drakulich’s death. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Drakulich family as they mourn the loss of one of our nation’s true heroes.
“We have lost one of Nevada’s finest and will remember him for his honorable service to our country and for the many sacrifices he made in the name of democracy so that we may live in a safer world.
“I extend my deepest sympathy to those mourning the loss of this exceptional young man.”
In honor of Specialist Drakulich, flags at the Nevada State Capitol will be flown at half-staff today, Friday January 11, 2008.
