Reno Justice Court judges say they'll postpone creating a sixth justice of the peace position to help save money in light of declining tax revenues.
Under state law, the court is authorized to add a sixth justice because of population growth in Reno Township.
The last justice was added in 1998.
But court officials said they can handle the increasing case load with the use of temporary judges.
That would enable the court to delay creating the new position until 2010.
Washoe County commissioners are expected to consider approving
$100,000 a year to fund temporary judges when they meet Feb. 12.
Court officials said the cost is about half what is necessary to fund a full-time judge position and staff.
