A break in the storm allowed Interstate 80 over Donner Summit
and U-S 50 over Echo Summit to reopen today after being closed off
and on for more than a day. The highways connect Sacramento to the
Reno-Tahoe area.
In Reno, Washoe County officials declared an emergency and began
a joint snow removal effort to clear clogged main streets.
Crews, meanwhile, are working to restore electricity to about
14-thousand Sierra Pacific Power Company customers in northern
Nevada and Lake Tahoe.
In Reno, up to two feet of snow shut down Reno-Tahoe International Airport last night and early this morning for only the third time in 40 years.
