According to the National Low Income Housing Coalition.. Nevada is one of the 10 least affordable states. Nevada ranks 9th in the nation for least affordable states. The federal government bases affordable housing figures on 30 percent of a person's income...that 30 percent includes both rent and utilities.
In Reno: the average is $848 dollars a month for a two bedroom aprtment plus utilities.
The Affordable Housing Resource Council is working to increase the supply of more affordable housing in our area.
According to A-H-R-C's Executive Director.. the organization has helped add about 24-hundred units in Reno and Sparks.
But..with many minimum wage workers in the service industry in Northern Nevada.. plus retirees and others living on fixed incomes.. .people need all the help they can get.
