A Reno woman is being sued by a third party debt collector...for a debt she says she never owed.
Consumer bankruptcy lawyers say most of these companies ARE legitimate.
But, you should check with your original creditor...to make sure your account has been assigned to a third party.
They say the "Fair Debt Collection Practice Act" can STOP collection agencies from harassing you.
All you have to do is send a certified letter...to the third party debt collector.
A collection agency usually gets involved...when the original creditor makes repeat attempts to collect but fails.
Usually, a third party buys the debt for 10-cents on the dollar, then collects the rest from you.
