Fierce Winds Today in Southern California

Red flag warnings for fire danger continue through this afternoon.

A 70 mile-per-hour gust was recorded on a ridge in Ventura County northwest of Los Angeles and high winds toppled a big rig on an Inland Empire freeway.

Forecasters also say a major change in the weather pattern over the Eastern Pacific will send a series of storms across the region starting Thursday.

The National Weather Service says the storms could bring the most significant rainfall across Southern California since January 2005.
