Red flag warnings for fire danger continue through this afternoon.
A 70 mile-per-hour gust was recorded on a ridge in Ventura County northwest of Los Angeles and high winds toppled a big rig on an Inland Empire freeway.
Forecasters also say a major change in the weather pattern over the Eastern Pacific will send a series of storms across the region starting Thursday.
The National Weather Service says the storms could bring the most significant rainfall across Southern California since January 2005.
