Authorities across northern Nevada say they're prepared to handle the throngs of revelers expected to take to the streets in Reno and Lake Tahoe to ring in the New Year.
At Lake Tahoe, U.S. 50 through the casino core will be shut down around 9 p.m. and traffic diverted.
Each year thousands of people typically swarm out of the casinos and onto the four-lane highway on the lake's south shore for the year's end countdown.
While streets are clear of snow, tonight's forecast calls for temperatures in the Sierra to be in the single digits.
Revelers in downtown Reno will be treated to a 20-minute fireworks display put on by local casinos.
And law enforcement agencies across the region are urging party goers to designate a driver or take public transportation if they plan on drinking.
