Ski resorts around Lake Tahoe and the Sierra are welcoming a foot or more of new snow that will allow them to open more slopes and lifts in time to help ensure a busy holiday season.
Sugar Bowl's Greg Murtha says it makes for a wonderful holiday present for all the skiers and snowboarders in the area.
He says the storms arrived just in the nick of time.
Alpine Meadows reported an additional foot of snow by this morning, a total of more than three feet of new snow for the week.
Diamond Peak on Lake Tahoe's north shore had about two feet of fresh powder on top of the mountain and a foot at its base when it opened this morning.
Mount Rose Ski Arae reported another foot to 14 inches of snow overnight.
