New Mexico RB Is Ineligible For Bowl Game

New Mexico will be without its top running back when the Lobos face Nevada in the New Mexico Bowl this weekend.

School officials announced today that Rodney Ferguson has been
declared academically ineligible.

Ferguson, a junior, led his team in rushing each of the last two years.

He ran for more than 11-hundred yards and 13 touchdowns this
season.

Coach Rocky Long says reserve running back Mike Love also has been declared ineligible.

He says he does not expect the changes to affect the Lobos game plan against the Wolf Pack on Saturday in Albuquerque.

Another junior, Paul Baker, will start in Ferguson's place.

He has 324 yards rushing this season, including a career-high 54 yards
in a season-opening loss at Texas-El Paso.
