Sparks Council Expands Copper Canyon Plans

The Sparks City Council has approved adding 82 acres to the planned Suncal Copper Canyon development that includes rezoning to allow for a hotel-casino.

But project officials say there's no immediate plans for a casino, which would still require a special use permit.

When complete, the 1,300-acre Copper Canyon development will include a business park, single-family and high-density housing and
commercial areas.

The development is to be built in seven phases with the early phases consisting of infrastructure work including roads and utilities.

Developers expect to break ground next year.
