The Reno Fire Department will hold a public workshop at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 20 on potential changes to Reno Municipal Code Chapter 16 (fire protection) and possible adoption of the 2006 edition of the International Fire Code.
The meeting will be held in the second floor meeting room at of the Reno Community Development Department at 450 Sinclair Street.
The codes provide a consistent approach to providing and maintaining fire prevention and protection measures throughout the community.
Use of the codes includes the flexibility of the designated authority to utilize alternative methods and materials when they meet the intent of the codes.
The proposed update of the City of Reno's codified fire prevention measures is in accordance with recommended changes in the code made by the International Code Committee.
Adoption of the 2006 International Fire Code would replace the 2003 edition of the International Fire Code adopted in 2005 and currently in effect.
The Reno Fire Department will tentatively make recommendations to the Reno City Council in March for revision of the Municipal Code and adoption of the International Fire Code.
