On November 1st, 2007, at approximately 10:30 pm, troopers from the Nevada Department of Public Safety-Highway Patrol Division were dispatched to a head-on collision on Interstate 80 near Wadsworth, approximately 23 miles east of Sparks.
The accident investigation details revealed that a red 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by 40 year old John Thomas Berryman of Reno was traveling westbound in the left eastbound travel lane.
Subsequently, a white 1986 Toyota Camry, driven by 28 year old Lisa Lynn Fuimaono of Fernley, was traveling eastbound in the left travel lane.
The two vehicles struck head-on causing life-threatening injuries to Ms Fuimaono, while Mr. Berryman received moderate injuries.
Troopers suspected that alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash and awaited the results of the toxicology report of Mr. Berryman before taking any enforcement action.
Based upon those results, which were well in excess of the .08% legal threshold, a felony warrant was issued for DUI Causing Substantial Bodily Harm.
Mr. Berryman turned himself into authorities at the Washoe County jail this morning where he was booked. His bail is $20,000 dollars.
Ms Fuimaono remains in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Renown Medical Center in Reno with life-threatening injuries.
