On Thursday, the media got its first look at the $28 million new Reno Events Center.
This events center is a public/private partnership between the city of Reno, and casino interests.
The project was paid for by room tax revenues and redevelopment money. The events center is supposed to boost mid-week room numbers by hosting conventions, trade shows, and concerts.
The building is 118,000 square feet with a main hall, which seats 4,400 people.
The total seating capacity is more than 7,500.
That's smaller than the Lawlor Events Center, but bigger than the Reno Livestock Events Center.
The downtown facility also has 10 luxury suites that rent for $70 to $125,000 a year including tickets.
There's a food and beverage area, and a meeting place right as you walk in.
Construction on the building started last January, and is expected to be finished by the end of the year.
In part, because of a strict schedule put on the contractor.
A grand opening is tentatively scheduled for Jan. 21 or Jan. 22.
The events center will officially open to the public Jan. 6.
