More Traffic Cops

Tomorrow at the Reno city council meeting, the police department will ask for six more police officers to work traffic enforcement.
Now, the officers wouldn't actually hit the streets until next year...but acting Police Chief Jim Weston says he's responding to a number of traffic complaints by citizens.
He says no officers have been added to the traffic division in a decade.
Police say the six new officers could reduce accidents and accidents involving injuries by ten percent.
Traffic calls rank fourth amongst all emergency calls in Reno.
Hiring the extra officers would cost the city more than 500-thousand dollars the first year.
But, the city is expected to make an extra 750-thousand dollars a year in fines and citations.
