Former Nevada Sheriff Administrator Named Lewiston Police Chief

MINDEN, Nev. (AP) - Douglas County sheriff's captain Steven Orr is moving north to become police chief in Lewiston, Idaho.

Orr has spent the last 25 years with the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, most recently as captain overseeing investigations. He is 59.

Lewiston City Manager John Krauss says Orr was at the top of a very competitive pool of 22 original applicants.

Lewiston officials began searching for a new police chief after the retirement of Paul Ayers this summer.

In his old job, Orr worked for a department with 100 sworn officers. In Lewiston, he will oversee a department with 45 sworn officers.
