Reno firefighters quickly extinguished a boiler room fire at the Silver Terrace Apartments Tuesday afternoon, confining the blaze to floor joists in the boiler room and beneath an adjacent apartment.
Reno Fire Department investigators today said heat from the boiler ignited the fire at about 3:33 p.m. which caused an estimated $10,000.00 in damage at the apartment complex at 1625 Wedekind Road.
Occupants reportedly evacuated the apartments safely, and no injuries were reported during the incident.
The American Red Cross was contacted to assist occupants of the one apartment affected by the fire.
According to the investigators, the boiler where the fire occurred, as well as others at the complex will be reinstalled to allow for greater airflow and heat dissipation around them.
About 24 firefighters responded to the incident with three structure fire engines and two ladder trucks and including a battalion chief, safety officer and fire investigator.
